Students of the Technical Theatre Arts study programme develop themselves primarily as theatre maker, and are trained to occupy an executive position. Graduates work with theatre companies and other producers to develop and realize stage productions. They are employed as head of technique, technical producer, stage manager or are responsible for the lighting and audio design. Many graduates also work at festivals and others use video to make interactive theatre images.
The developments in theatre technology have greatly broadened its work field. Especially the growth of festivals and events has spawned an increase in theatre technology companies and their activities. Ever developing professionalism, due in part to the application of increasingly complex technology and more and more stringent safety regulations, can mean artistic quality is overlooked. This dilemma calls for managers who are theatre makers in heart and soul.
Technical Theatre Arts is not a study programme that trains you for one specific profession. You acquire a broad basis that allows you to specialize further in the practical field.
