Production and Stage Management

Artistic director: Gwenoële Trapman

The Production and Stage Management study programme trains production- and stage managers for a function in every imaginable form of the performing arts, including theatre, dance, music theatre or opera, performances, events or for the organisation of concerts and festivals. Many current productions are extremely wide-ranging and intricate because technique, design and safety demands are stringent and involve considerable sums of money. The Production and Stage Management study programme, founded in 2001 deals extensively with all these aspects.

The study programme operates between aspiration and action: you learn to grasp and translate your artistic ideas and those of others into concrete activities, the formulation of plans, budgets and scenarios. Over a four-year period you are trained to function as production director, capable of combining communicative, business and organisational skills with a broad creativity, artistic insight and knowledge of working procedures in the performing arts, including technique. Through intensive teamwork with the Theaterschool and internships in the professional field, you gain practical experience in all aspects of theatre making.

Education is divided into three clusters: production, performing arts and technique. Thanks to this broad basis, graduates are employed in a wide range of organisational functions, often with serious responsibilities, like producer, managing director of a theatre company, (assistant) stage manager with a musical production or director’s assistant.
