Mime School
Artistic director: Loes van der Pligt
Graduates of the Mime School are actors and theatre makers with a unique approach and a strong physical and spatial sensitivity. Mime artists use their body as instrument. They use the power of body language as a source for acting and theatre making. Specific analysis of body language and its theatrical application make the study programme and the forms of theatre that stem from it, unique in their sort. For mime – movement , image and space are important conveyors of meaning while text has a more supportive function.
Performances by various theatre makers who have completed the study programme, vary greatly in form and content. These variations are a logical consequence of students being stimulated to create their own vision of mime. In this way the study programme nurtures professional practice and vice versa. In the course of its forty year existence the Mime School, thanks to its innovative character, has made important contributions to renewing the theatre landscape.
Attention!
The language of the Theatre Department is Dutch. In order to function up to the mark in the lessons, foreign students are required to learn, speak, write and read Dutch during their first year of study.
