If you are entitled to a study grant ('studiefinanciering') or a tuition fee loan ('collegegeldkrediet') you need a Dutch bank account to receive the money. A bank account can be useful for a lot of other purposes as well.
ABN AMRO bank account
At the Enrolment Office of the Amsterdam School of the Arts you can open a Dutch bank account at the ABN AMRO bank. You will have to fill in a form at the Enrolment Office. They will sign it and send it in for you.
There are two options:
- Dutch bank account (with legal housing in the Netherlands)
Within four months after opening the bank account you will have to inform the bank about your
Burger Service Number (BSN). You will get one when you
register at the City Registry, after having found legal housing. - non-residents account
If you do not have legal housing in the Netherlands you will have to apply for a non-residents account, also via the Enrolment Office of the AHK. You will have to give proof of your official address in your home country, by showing a bank statement or an energy bill dated not earlier than three months ago.
