Bank account

If you are entitled to a study grant ('studiefinanciering') or a tuition fee loan ('collegegeldkrediet') you need a Dutch bank account to receive the money. A bank account can be useful for a lot of other purposes as well.

In general it is only possible to open a bank account in the Netherlands when you have a Burger Service Number (BSN, 'Civil Service Number') or SoFi number. The bank will also ask for a proof of your address in your home country.

A Burger Service Nummer is automatically proceeded when you register at the City Registry.
