Branka Zgonjanin

Branka Zgonjanin (aka Iskra Bela) was born in 1980 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Until her enrolment at the Amsterdam Master of Choreography she has been making performances and pieces in-between the disciplines of performance art, physical theatre and contemporary dance. Branka’s works deal with the materiality of the body, sexuality, extreme intimacy on stage and proximity of the audience. She attempts to borderline the experience in the theatre and its conventions, to question her reasons to do and to show art, constantly searching for new ways of how to live...

Branka's research studies at the Amsterdam Master of Choreography are marked by her interest into dramaturgy of the body itself, the enlarged – Gulliver-sized body, the broken body, different bodies that one possesses, fragmented bodies, forgotten body parts, hyper-politicized body, body histories and the possibility of using the concept of habitus (P. Bourdieu) for choreographic thinking and creating. Branka is also interested in the political potential of the performance - where politics are seen not in a conventional manner, but rather invented anew.
