
De Theaterschool is a faculty of the Amsterdam School of the Arts. It encompasses fourteen courses of higher professional education (HBO/BA). De Theaterschool exists of three department
Within the department of Theatre students are educated in theatre directors, actors, acting and cabaret, mime player or theatre teacher.The department of dance schools house performing dancers, choreographers and dance teachers. The Scenography, Theatre Technical Arts and Production department has three courses: Scenography, Theatre Technical Arts, Production and stage management. The school counts with approximately 450 students and 250 teachers and employees.
The direction of de Theaterschool is formed by Leontien Wiering, director and head Dance, Aafje Terwey, assistant director and head Scenography, Theatre Technical Arts and Production and André Veltkamp, head Theatre.
Artistic directors and teachers of de Theaterschool are - almost without exception - professionally active thereby vouching for close contacts in the field of dance and theatre which, in turn, ensures continuity, development and innovation at the educational level.
Attention
The language of the Theater Department is Dutch. In order to function up to the mark in the lessons, foreign students are required to learn, speak, write and read Dutch during their first year of study.
